Transcript of William Varley Will dated 2 October 1756

IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN

 

I (William Varley) of Cross-Layn in the township of Almondbury in County of York, Being of Perfect Mind and Memory;  And calling to and Duly Considering the Uncertainty of Human Life, make this my last Will and Testament;  First and principally

I commit my Soul to ye Hands of my Blessed Maker, Trusting in his Mercies and in the Merits of my Dear Redeemer, for the Remission of all my Sins;  My Body I commit to the Earth to be Decently Buried And as for my Temporal Estates I bequeath and Dispose of it in the following Manner.

Imprimis (To my Son Thomas I bequeath the Sum of One Shilling; with the Half of my tools

Item: To my daughter Sarah I bequeath the sum of One Shilling

Item: To my son William I bequeath the sum of One shilling

Item: To my daughter Mary I bequeath the sum of one Shilling

Item: To my son John I bequeath the sum of 1 shilling with the other Half of my Tools Belonging to my Occupation,

The Residue and Remainder of all my Estates, with my Goods & Chattels with all other properties of what kind soever to ...... Appurtaining I give & bequeath to my loving wife, whom I constitute And appoint the & Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament;  And Do hereby Utterly revoke disallow And Disannul my former Bequeaths Wills & Legaces, By me heretofore in anywise left or made, declaring, Rastifying (?) & Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. 

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this (second Day of October, In this year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred fifty & six.
