THE death occurred early yesterday in her 79th year, of Mrs. Mary Elisabeth Varley, widow of Mr. Arthur Varley, formerly of 36 Da1las Road Lancaster. Along with her late husband, who was a director for many years of the Co-operative Wholesale Society Manchester she was a regular and devoted member of the congregation of the Brock Street United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Varley leaves four daughters, all of whom were christened and married in the Brock Street Church. Although apart from her church work she did not take a very active part in public life, she supported her late husband or many occasions. She had the pleasure for many years of attending annually the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace and on one occasion was presented to Her Majesty Queen Mary.
